His passion for blending education with real estate development drives his work, especially in underserved areas. Today, he leads projects that focus on schools, affordable housing, and essential services while partnering with public and private entities to create long-term, impactful spaces. Gilbert’s vision is to leave a legacy of growth and opportunity for future generations, always guided by trust and collaboration.
My journey has always been about making a difference by creating spaces where people and communities can thrive.
His career began at Gensler, where he started as an intern, and soon after, he joined Mangini Associates Inc. Over his 20-year career at Mangini, Gilbert rose through the ranks from intern to corporate partner and played a major role in leading the design and construction of california public school facilities throughout multiple counties in the southern San Joaquin Valley, better known as the Central Valley.
Along the way, he co-founded a high school internship program in 2010, helping students gain hands-on experience with real clients while working with the College of Architecture and Environmental Design students from his alma mater, Cal Poly, and industry professionals from local businesses and government agencies including the California Department of Education, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sunpower, PG&E, Family Healthcare Network, Tulare County Office of Education, City of Porterville Library and Literacy Commission, Porterville Sheltered Workshop, Porterville Rotary Club, and many others. This initiative impacted over 500 students and, with Gilbert’s leadership, played a major role in securing a $15 million county-wide grant in partnership with several school districts in multiple counties to expand the education+careers philosophy even further. He continues his passion with the students on his projects at Bareng Corporation and aims to continue building relationships with other colleges and universities.
In January 2024, Gilbert launched Bareng Corporation to focus on community-driven projects, bringing his expertise as a licensed architect to tackle global challenges.
After decades in architecture, I took a leap of faith and transitioned into the broader real estate development and finance industry. I wouldn't have had the courage to do this without the support from my business partners and family.
Throughout his career, Gilbert has earned several awards, including the National Advisory Board Champion Award for his leadership in education, an Architectural School and University Portfolio Award for his innovative educational facility designs, and recognition from the Woodlake Rotary Club for his commitment to the youth. He continues his professional development by working toward alumni status and real estate certifications from Harvard University.
Gilbert remains active on many school advisory boards, staying connected to education and community initiatives. He was elected to his children's school site councils at Sequoia Middle School and Monache High School and was also voted unanimously to represent each council at the District Advisory Council. He recently joined his local Exchange Club of Porterville and was knighted by his local St. Anne's Parish as a brother of the Knights of Columbus to further his commitment to his community and faith.
At the heart of his work is the strong set of values instilled in him by his family — honesty, education, and strong work ethics. These principles continue to inspire him as he builds partnerships that he hopes will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
